Ready to learn the ABC's?!?

Before you even THINK about watching this video... STOP!! I want you to stick both of your hands out in front of you with palms facing out.... come on, do it. Now I want you to bend each finger back VERY carefully! Signing can get a little dangerous so you want to be loose, agile, and ready for anything that comes your way! Kind of like dance dance revolution. Now that you're all warmed up... proceed at your own risk. I warned you. This is really intense! ;-)

The ASL alphabet is a really good thing to have in your back pocket so if you meet a deaf person you can, first get your hands out of your back pocket, and spell your name! This is called fingerspelling! My first conversation with a deaf person was actually all fingerspelling. I spelled everything. It was hilarious and awesome. They laughed at me but appreciated me trying!

Learn away! ...and practice practice practice! You'll be singing the song all day :)

I have good news!!

Yes, it's true, I have really good news for you! Are you ready for it? You probably aren't but that's the best part!

..... you are a beautiful, perfect, masterpiece. Here's where it gets good! Not just any masterpiece. God's masterpiece! Too good to believe right? That's my favorite part.

How could I be all of those things? I have really judgmental thoughts. Sometimes I cuss. I'm anything but beautiful. I sin knowing I'm sinning and I keep on sinning. I'm anything but perfect.

Lies. All lies. The Lord has paid for your perfection as he has paid for mine. Stop living in the bondage of the lies that the World is feeding you. That's not fair. That slavery that you and I are a living under was paid for. With the most extravagant sacrifice. Jesus has already taken those imperfections that you are heaving around your neck, and he nailed them to His cross. His beautiful, perfect cross. They are His, not yours.

You my friend, you my mothers, you my future husband... are a masterpiece. You are being chiseled daily to look more like Jesus than yourself.

I told you it was good news!! Who doesn't love a make over?! You have to ask for it though. Oh and, it's free.

You're going to want to watch this. Promise it's worth the time. :)

AHHH THEY'RE DEAF!!!

So, as some of you know, my major is interpreting for the deaf! Yes I do sign langauge and no I do not read braile. haha SO many people ask me that... "oh yea, so you can read braile?!" Well, no. Braile is for blind people. I wish I could though! Talk about an incredible skill to have. Anyway, I wanted to starting blogging here and there about deafness. DOM DOM DOM!!! Most of you hearing people out there just got a little scared huh? "I can't talk to them, they can't hear me!" WHAT TO DO!?!?

1.STAY CALM! If you don't, you will look silly. Promise.
2. Smile and wave.. did you know waving is a universal Hello! Can't go wrong with that!
3. Some deaf people can lip read but not all so if you get lucky and they can lip read, go on and talk to them. Nice and clear.
4. Don't yell! haha I LOVE it when a hearing person starts talking REALLY loud thinking that maybe if I scream they will hear me. Nope. Good thought though. haha
5. If you don't know any sign language grab a pen and paper!

I'm hoping to get some videos up on here and teach you guys a little bit of ASL (American Sign Language) and talk about deaf culture because it is VERY different from hearing culture. Bet ya didn't even know they had a culture huh? Yea I was shocked too! I want to challenge you guys to be open minded about deafness and put away any preconcieved notion that you have about deaf people because I'd bet that it's probably not true. I'm excited about sharing some of what I know with y'all!

Deaf fact for the day!
93 percent of deaf children are born into hearing families; only 7 percent are born into deaf families.

Operation Celebration

So I promised in the first post that I would keep you updated on the preparations for the wedding. It has been 1 month and 4 days since Taylor asked me to be his bride and we have almost everything planned! It has been C.R.A.Z.Y. who knew that weddings had SO many details?

Groom: Check!
Dress: Check!
Venue: Check
Videographer: Check
Photographer:Check
Bridesmaids and dresses: Check x 7
Groomsmen: Check x 8
Cake, fabrics, linens, chairs, silverware, napkins. centerpieces: CHECK

The list could go on.... like the energizer bunny. Seriously. The more we've gotten into planning this wedding the more I've realized how expensive things can get and I began to "freak out", if you will, about money and cutting costs but i've been reading in the Bible about weddings. i figure where better to get inspiration from. Weddings are a BIG deal with fancy fabric and good food. It's a true celebration of Christ and his sparkling, radiant, pure and holy Bride! Words which we are not worthy of as the collective Bride of Christ, and words that I am not worthy of as Taylor's bride. BUT words that we are all worthy of because the sweet redemption of the Lord! How exciting! I get to walk down the isle only to meet the eyes of my earthly groom and I can stand before him knowing that I am radiant, knowing that I am pure, knowing that I am complete because that's how the Lords sees me. The Lord yearns to wash his Bride through his Word and present her holy and blameless to Himself. You better belive the Lord goes big or goes home for a celebration like this! Not over the top, but just right.

I am beyond excited to marry Taylor. Can you imagine how excited we will be for the BIGGEST wedding of our lives? The wedding when the Lord peels back the veil that we've been wearing since the beginning of time and we get to look full into the face of our Creator. Talk about a wedding that I don't want to miss!!

My future husband blogged about his perspective of the proposal story, I assure you that it's better than mine! Check it out! There are three parts so don't miss em!
